Can you feel it? The slight chill. The cool evenings. The dark mornings? Oh man, Winter. It’s getting closer. And while we’re all super excited for the impending rain on its way to the Western Cape, we’re certainly going to miss our warm summer evenings.

Feel the same? Worry not. We have just the thing to make even the most gloomy mornings feel like a mid-summer paradise.

Well, perhaps that’s a bit dramatic. Nevertheless, we thought we would feature 10 of our favourite smoothie bowl recipes to keep you feeling good this winter.

1. Strawberries and Dream

Let’s kick this off with an old-school favourite. Who doesn’t love the sweet and tangy taste of strawberries and cream? This delicious base is a simple blend of strawberries, yoghurt, organic honey and vanilla. Next, all you need to do is add your favourite toppings to taste. We recommend strawberries, blueberries, almonds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and a drizzle of yoghurt.

2. Avocado and Kale

Okay, we get it, off the bat avocado and kale don’t seem like two things we’re all gushing to blend together and eat with a spoon. But trust us on this one ‘kay? Firstly, give a nice, thorough blend to kale leaves, almond milk, banana, avocado, ice, and honey or maple syrup. Next, take your pick from an assortment of raspberries (or blueberries), banana, kiwi, chia seeds, and a drizzle of honey to top it all off.

3. Vegan Berry Crunch!

Calling all vegans! This one’s for you. Actually. This is one for everyone. It’s delicious no matter what your dietary preferences are. All you need to do is blend an assortment of blueberries, banana, kale (or spinach), chia seeds, almond milk, and honey. This totally vegan breakfast is sweet, healthy, and even has the creamy texture of frozen yoghurt. All you need to do next is go wild with your toppings. Think granola. Think almonds. Think frozen berries. Yummy.

4. Pitaya Breakfast Bowl

Wondering what on earth pitaya is? Don’t worry, so were we. It’s dragon fruit. You know? that semi-tasteless, yet somehow delicious wonder that started gaining popularity in South Africa about 3 years ago? Well, believe it or not, the dragon fruit’s incredible natural pigment makes this smoothie as awesome to stare at as it is to eat. Dragon fruit is a great source of antioxidants, magnesium, fibre, and B vitamins, making this an ideal post-workout snack.

5. Chocolate Hazelnut Hemp Smoothie Bowl

Did someone say chocolate? Wait, did you hear hazelnut? Oh man. This is going to be our favourite, we can already tell. This vegan masterpiece is a simple blend of natural cacao, frozen banana, hemp protein, dates and almond milk. These ingredients all come together to create a smoothie filled with plant-based protein, iron, and omega-3 fats.

6. 5-Minute Berry Bowl

In a rush? Got things to do? Too busy to function? This smoothie bowl is most certainly the one for you. All it needs from you is 3 ingredients, 1 blender, and 5 minutes.

Think about it. Mixed frozen berries. Frozen banana. A tiny bit of water (not actually an ingredient) and then a dash of protein powder. That’s all it takes! All you need to do next is top to taste. Roasted coconut shavings, chia seeds and fresh fruit work well, but you’re in a rush remember!

The question on everybody’s lips right now is either “what is acai?” or “what is acai good for?”. Well, the short answers to both of those are that acai is a species of palm tree which produces some incredibly delectable berries. These berries are high in antioxidants, vitamins and caffeine. They’re great for feeling great. They also happen to be the key ingredient in this delicious smoothie bowl.

Nobody doesn’t like mango. Especially frozen mango that you don’t have to gnaw off of the pip, getting every tiny fruit fibre on the planet lodged between your teeth. This bowl happens to be our out-and-out favourite. All it requires from you is some frozen mango, frozen pineapple, roasted coconut, blueberries and (to top it off) some granola. Delicious stuff.
